Budding filmmakers have 50 days from now to write, shoot and edit a film for entry in a popular short film competition as part of the Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF).

Arts Minister Rod Welford said entries were now open for The Courier-Mail/Brisbane International Film Festival Fast Film competition, which gives filmmakers 50 days to make a film of four minutes or less.

“Fast Film is an exciting challenge for budding filmmakers and I encourage everyone to take the plunge and get involved, “Mr Welford said.

“No restrictions are placed on the genre, subject or location of the film, however, it must feature a special ingredient – a magnifying glass.”

This year the shortlisted films will be showcased within the expanded “BIFF in the Burbs” program, which includes 15 free public film screenings at locations across south-east Queensland.

“The BIFF in the Burbs screenings offer aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their creative and technical skills to more than 10,000 people,” Mr Welford said.

“More importantly, they will have the chance to be recognised by their peers at BIFF.

“A panel of judges will shortlist the entries and the audience will vote for their favourite film, adding an interactive element to the competition.”

All entries for Fast Film, which is presented by The Courier-Mail, must be received by 5pm on Thursday 31 May. The winner will be announced at BIFF’s Closing Night ceremony on Sunday 12 August.

Fast Film entrants are required to submit their film on VHS or DVD and the content must comply with General or Parental Guidance Recommended film classifications. Filmmakers must also be the copyright holder and/or have all the necessary copyright permissions.

Fast Film entry forms and further information are available at www.biff.com.au .

BIFF’s main program will run from 2-12 August, and will bring together more than 100 films from across the world, including a huge selection of home-grown Australian titles.

Further information about BIFF including ticketing information will be released over the coming months, with the full program of films announced in early July.
