Safer Roads Sooner reduces rear ender risk
Main Roads will invest $800,000 to reduce the risk of rear end collisions on Deception Bay Road.
Acting Minister for Transport and Main Roads, John Mickel, said dedicated right turn lanes would be built at key intersections between Tallowood Drive and Tallagon Court.
“The money for this important project will come from the Queensland Government’s Safer Roads Sooner program.
“Its primary function is to fund road works which aim to improve road safety in areas with a high crash history.”
Road works will begin next week and include the construction of right turn lanes from Deception Bay Road into Tallowood Drive, Priests Road, Krause Street, Warroo Drive, and Tallagon Court.
Member for Murrumba, Dean Wells, said the right turn lanes would help reduce the number of high speed rear end crashes along Deception Bay Road.
“As traffic volumes have increased, so too has accident rate but the addition of turning lanes will go some way to alleviating the crash risk.
"This project will provide immediate safety benefits for motorists ahead of the plans worth $96 million to four-lane the 3.4 kilometre section between Lipscombe Road and the Bruce Highway.
Installation of the dedicated right turn lanes on Deception Bay Road is expected to be finished by late next month.
