Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries
The Honourable Tim Mulherin

AVOID THE FINE WHEN WETTING THE LINE THIS EASTER

Anglers heading out on Queensland waters these Easter holidays are reminded to observe fishing rules and regulations or face possible on-the-spot fines.

Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin highlighted the importance of the fishing rules and regulations, which are in place to help to protect Queensland’s valuable species and marine life.

“Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol officers up and down the coast will be keeping a close eye on fishing and boating practices over the Easter break,” Mr Mulherin said.

“It is important that recreational fishers understand that the regulations ensure fair access for Queensland fish stocks, and also protect our valued natural resources.

“QBFP officers will be paying particular attention to bag and size limits as well as any unsafe boating activities, correct vessel registration and appropriate licensing of operators.

“With approximately 750,000 recreational fishers throwing in a line throughout the state each year, it’s vital that each and every Queenslander recognises we all have a part to play in ensuring current and future generations are able to enjoy the pleasures of fishing while being responsible and protecting our valuable fish stocks.”

Anglers are encouraged to report any suspicious or unlawful fishing activities to the 24-hour Fishwatch hotline on 1800 017 116.

The Recreational fishing rules and regulations for Queensland is available from QBFP offices, local bait and tackle stores or alternatively at www.dpi.qld.gov.au/fishweb.
