Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Paul Lucas
Tackling Western Suburbs Traffic
Bulldozers move on site later this month to begin a $34 million upgrade of Moggill Road at Kenmore, Parliamentary Secretary for Main Roads, Andrew McNamara, and Member for Indooroopilly, Ronan Lee, said today.
“The 1.6 km upgrade between Kilkivan Avenue (south) and Pullenvale Road will deliver additional congestion busting lanes and safety improvements for the motorists of Brisbane’s western suburbs.
“Moggill road will be widened to four lanes and we’ll be making the intersections of Kilkivan Avenue (south), Rafting Ground Road and Pullenvale Road easier and safer for drivers to negotiate by adding traffic lights.
“The McDonald Keen Group has been awarded the multi million dollar construction contract,” Mr McNamara said.
“There has been extensive consultation with the community on the improvement plan for Moggill Road to minimise the inevitable disruption to motorists, residents and businesses,” Mr Lee said.
“Part of the process involved the Main Roads funded relocation in November of the KenmoreCommunityChurch to Bellbowrie.
“The relocation was a delicate operation and I’d like to again thank the church community for its co-operation and understanding,” he said.
Mr McNamara said Main Roads had done a lot of preparation work for the Moggill Road upgrade including the relocation of communications, electricity and water infrastructure.
“Newsletters updating the construction timetable will begin arriving in letterboxes from today.
“Main Roads will limit lane closures during construction to non-peak periods, we’ll also be advising bus commuters well in advance of any changes to bus stop locations, routes and timetables.
"Delays for motorists and public transport users are inevitable over the next twelve months, I apologise for that, but be assured the long term benefits will outweigh the short term inconvenience,” Mr McNamara said.
Construction of the Moggill Road upgrade is expected to finish by mid 2008.
More information on the upgrade can be found on the Main Roads website: www.mainroads.qld.gov.au.
