Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure
The Honourable Anna Bligh

HAVE YOUR SAY ON ELLA BAY

April 3, 2007

Deputy Premier and Infrastructure Minister Anna Bligh has invited the public to have their say on the Environmental Impact Statement for the $1.4 billion Ella Bay Integrated Resort.

Ms Bligh said the project promised a much-needed boost to the economy of the cyclone-hit Innisfail region but it was important local people were heard during the process.

She said that if the Ella Bay resort proposal proceeds, it promises to create 1800 jobs during construction and 655 when operational.

The EIS will be available for viewing at the Johnstone Shire Council offices and the Johnstone Shire Library in Innisfail, the State Development Centre in Cairns and the State Library of Queensland in Brisbane until May 21.

“Now is the time for the public to tell us what they think. We need their input before a final decision is made on whether or not this project goes ahead,” Ms Bligh said.

“Initial investigations indicate that Ella Bay Integrated Resort will be an economic shot in the arm for the Innisfail community.”

Ella Bay Developments proposes to build a master-planned integrated tourism and residential lifestyle community on a 450ha grazing property over the next decade.

It includes 540 water and rainforest view residences, four five-star resort precincts, a retail and professional services precinct, an educational precinct and an 18-hole golf course.
