Minister for Child Safety
The Honourable Desley Boyle

$7.2 million to boost child protection services in the community

Child Safety Minister Desley Boyle today announced the renewal of funding to seven community organisations to provide vital child protection and support services.

Ms Boyle said the funding – a total of $7.2 million over three years – was part of the Beattie Government’s ongoing commitment to working in partnership with the community.
“In 2006-07 just over half of the department’s $506 million budget will go directly to our community partners, including foster and kinship carers and community-based service providers,” Ms Boyle said.

“These groups play a critical role supporting children in care. It is essential they continue to do so.”

The organisations to receive funding include Foster Care Queensland, the peak body representing the state’s foster and kinship carers, and the CREATE Foundation, the peak group representing children and young people in care.

“These organisations do really great work, providing support, training, information, networking and advocacy services for children in care and foster carers,” Ms Boyle said.

“Our community partners have worked with us to reform child protection in Queensland over the past three years and we will keep working together for a better future for children and young people.”

The seven organisations to receive renewed funding are:

• Foster Care Queensland – $454,900 each year for three years to provide peak and representative network services for Queensland foster and kinship carers;

• CREATE Foundation – $475,500 each year for three years to provide peak and representative network services for Queensland children and young people in care;

• Griffith University School of Psychology, Family Interaction Program – $196,600 each year for three years to provide family intervention services on the Gold Coast;
