The Honourable Warren Pitt
Multi-service hub coordinates services for Innisfail
A multi-service hub planned for Innisfail will give residents access to a wide range of coordinated community services in one location.
Communities Minister and Member for Mulgrave Warren Pitt said the facility would be developed on a 3035 square metre block in Donald Street, and was expected to be ready for occupation in early 2008
“This is significant news for the Innisfail community, as the final cost of the multi-service hub is likely to be more than $1.5 million,” Mr Pitt said.
“Multi-service hubs typically offer a diverse range of services and information encompassing the needs of families, young people, seniors and other services determined by local groups.
“The Innisfail multi-service hub will offer coordinated services in one facility, offering community groups access to meeting rooms and other facilities, saving people time, energy and money.”
The Donald Street site is being developed to meet departmental specifications. An application to change the land use has been lodged with Johnstone Shire Council and a building contract will be advertised and awarded later this year.
Mr Pitt said the building’s format would include a manager’s office, interview rooms, offices for staff and community-based organisations, large meeting rooms – which could be converted into a large conference room – and an adjoining kitchen.
“There is also ample outdoor space for a children’s playground and activities, with sufficient space for future expansion,” he said.
Mr Pitt said the Innisfail Community Support Centre, which had been actively involved in the design and development phases, would manage the centre.
“A community support officer has been appointed to work with non-government organisations to ensure the co-location of an appropriate mix of services under one roof,” he said.
“Approval of this project fulfils a commitment I gave to the Johnstone Shire Council, which has actively pursued the development of a multi-service venue for the district.”
Community-based organisations interested in using the space should register with community support officer Fiona Norman on 4048 9311.
