ENERGY-SAVING HOME A “MUST SEE” AT COAST EXPO

A style of housing that can save more than 100,000 litres of water a year is bound to catch the eye of new home builders and renovators at the annual Suncoast Living Expo at Kawana later this month.

Acting Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology Judy Spence said today the Expo was a great opportunity to promote two Queensland Government initiatives, Sustainable Homes and Smart Housing.

“Sustainable homes are designed to place the least possible burden on the environment, they’re comfortable and practical, and economical to maintain,” Ms Spence said.

“As well as helping to save water in the current drought, a sustainable home can reduce household running costs by up to 60 per cent, saving more than three tonnes of greenhouse gases a year,” she said.

Ms Spence said the Queensland Government, local councils and private industry were working together in more than 30 individual projects to design and build sustainable homes for public display.

“In the broader Sunshine Coast region, construction has begun on a sustainable home at Hervey Bay, work is expected to start in June on sites at Buderim, Murgon and Noosa, and another home is being designed for Maleny,” the Minister said.

“Visitors to the Suncoast Living Expo will be able to find out more about these exciting Queensland Government initiatives at the Department of Public Works stand in the Living Smart marquee,” she said.

The expo will be held at Quad Park, Kawana, from Friday 30 March to Sunday 1 April.
