SCHOOL SWIMMERS COMPETE FOR STATE HONOURS

School swimmers from across the state will make a splash at Chandler from this Sunday for the 13 to 19 years Queensland School Sport Swimming Championships.

Education and Training Minister, Rod Welford, said more than 700 students had been selected to represent their regions at state level.

"I would like to congratulate each on their achievement and wish them every success,” Mr Welford said.

"I would also like to thank our dedicated teachers and school staff who have worked hard to make the championships a success.”

The three-day championships, at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre from April 1 to 3, will include individual and relay events.

Twelve sporting regions will be represented—Metropolitan West, Metropolitan North, Metropolitan East, South West, Wide Bay, Capricornia, Darling Downs, Northern, North Western, Peninsula, South Coast and Sunshine Coast.

Mr Welford said the event provided a great opportunity for the young athletes to compete at a high level while meeting and sharing experiences with their peers from across the state.

Following the championships 75 students will be selected to represent Queensland at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships in Hobart in August.
