WILD RIVERS LANDHOLDERS RECEIVE INFORMATION KITS

A comprehensive Wild Rivers information kit will be mailed to landholders in the six recently-declared wild river areas, Natural Resources and Water Minister Craig Wallace said today.

Mr Wallace said more than 80 kits would be mailed across the Settlement, Morning Inlet, Gregory, Staaten, Hinchinbrook and Fraser Wild River Areas.

“Each kit aims to assist landholders to better understand the wild river requirements,” Mr Wallace said.

Mr Wallace said similar kits would be sent to relevant local governments with maps of the wild river areas. Councils are required to make the declarations available for public inspection.

“The department will also hold workshops with each relevant local government to further improve their understanding of the Wild Rivers Act 2005, the declarations and the code,” he said.

The kits will include:

·The relevant wild river declaration

·The Wild Rivers Code

·A specific map for each landholder’s property and

·The wild rivers graziers’ guide.

The Beattie Government gave a 2004 election commitment to protect river systems where little or no development had taken place.
