The Honourable Warren Pitt
Inclusive MS complex planned for Coorparoo
An innovative project providing residential accommodation for people with MS was officially launched in Brisbane today for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Queensland.
Disability Services Minister Warren Pitt said the architect-designed 32-apartment complex, called Life at Coorparoo, would be a unique development for the community.
“The twin-tower apartment complex will incorporate purpose-designed accommodation for people who have multiple sclerosis,” Mr Pitt said.
“The apartment complex will be located right in the heart of Coorparoo, close to shops, services, clubs and transport.”
Mr Pitt officially launched the start of the Life at Coorparoo project during a ceremony in Brisbane today.
Construction is expected to start about June 2007 and the units will be completed around April to June 2008.
“Once construction is completed, the inclusive nature of the complex will ensure residents are part of the ebb and flow of daily life, rather than being isolated from it,” he said.
“All of the ground-floor apartments will be wheelchair-friendly, and with easy access to the Coorparoo centre, people with MS will have significantly improved opportunities to be a part of the local community.”
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Queensland will own eight apartments in the complex, which it will use for accommodation and respite purposes, while the other 24 apartments will be offered for sale to the general public from this Saturday.
