Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
Power boost for Warwick
Ergon Energy’s customers in Warwick will enjoy a more reliable electricity supply when an additional 11kV feeder is built at the West Warwick substation ahead of next summer’s storm season.
Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said the new $400,000 Wood Street feeder would ease the load on existing urban feeders at both the West and East Warwick substations.
“An additional transformer and circuit breaker have recently been installed at the West Warwick substation to give it greater capacity,” Mr Wilson said.
“The new feeder will take advantage of the extra capacity by enabling about 1000 customers currently served from the East Warwick substation to transfer to West Warwick.
“This will result in an improved reliability of power supply to customers transferred to the Wood Street feeder and to those remaining on the Mill Hill, Percy Street and WarwickHospital feeders.
“The number of customers served from the WarwickHospital feeder will be halved. This will significantly reduce the number of unplanned outages affecting them.
“Businesses in the Central Business District of Warwick will be the main beneficiaries of a boost to their local power supply.
“The additional feeder will also give Ergon Energy more flexibility to manage unplanned outages and undertake maintenance.
Mr Wilson said the new feeder was one element of a program of major works under way to enhance the security of power supply to Warwick customers.
