HAVE YOUR SAY ON EIS ON PINKENBA ETHANOL BIO-REFINERY: BLIGH

March 26 2007
The public are invited to have their say on the draft terms of reference for the Pinkenba Ethanol Bio-Refinery project planned by proponent Primary Energy, Acting Premier Anna Bligh said today.

Primary Energy plans to establish a dry milling ethanol bio-refinery on an existing industrial site at Pinkenba.

“Once fully operational in late 2008 or early 2009, the proposed Bio-Refinery could process 400,000 tonnes of grain feedstock per annum for 160ML of fuel grade ethanol, 240,000 tonnes of fertiliser, 16,000 tonnes of aqueous ammonia and 23MW of green electricity.

“Between now and close of business on Monday 17 April 2007, the public are welcome to have their say on the Environmental Impact Statement for the Pinkenba Ethanol Bio-Refinery,” Ms Bligh said.

“They can view a copy of the draft terms of reference and proponent’s initial advice statement at www.infrastructure.qld.gov.au/eis before submitting written comments relating to the terms of reference.

“Written comments can be sent to the Department of Infrastructure at PO Box 15009, City East Qld 4002.

“The one-month window of opportunity for the public to have their say, will help the Queensland Government ensure that it makes a fully informed decision on what to include in the Terms of Reference.”

Ms Bligh said the Queensland Government was committed to developing an ethanol industry and declared the Pinkenba Ethanol Bio-Refinery a significant project requiring an EIS in November 2006.

“The State Government proposed mandate for 5% ethanol use in fuel will require the production of 225ML per year of ethanol,” she said.

“The Pinkenba Refinery could deliver as much as 71% of this requirement.”
