Communities in the Caboolture, Deception Bay and Redcliffe areas now have access to an intensive support service for vulnerable children and their families.

Minister for Communities Warren Pitt launched the new Referral for Active Intervention service today. Similar services in nine other locations are being rolled out as part of an $8.5 million statewide initiative.

“I am pleased to provide Mission Australia with Queensland Government funding of $890,000 to establish this vital community service across the Caboolture, Deception Bay and Redcliffe areas,” Mr Pitt said.

“This service will target young children and their families who have been assessed as low risk within the child protection system but who could benefit from active intervention to break the cycle.

“Clients will have access to a wide range of support services including information, assistance with everyday tasks such as budgeting and behaviour management, and access to an individual case manager.

“This initiative is about working towards reducing the number of families falling into crisis and children coming into the care of the Department of Child Safety.”

Mr Pitt said the Referral for Active Intervention program would work with children aged from birth to eight years and their families.

“I welcome Mission Australia’s involvement. The importance of local knowledge and experience cannot be underestimated,” Mr Pitt said.

“I am confident this service will benefit vulnerable children and their families as well as the wider community.”

Other Referral for Active Intervention services are operating in Eagleby, Ipswich, Inala/Goodna, the south Gold Coast, Toowoomba, South Burnett, Rockhampton, Townsville/Thuringowa and Cairns.
