Qs AND As ON MORETON BAY MARINE PARK REVIEW PROVE POPULAR

South east Queenslander’s have been taking advantage of the EPA’s display sessions on the Moreton Bay Marine Park Zoning Plan Review, Environment Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said today.

Ms Nelson-Carr said there had been a good response to the first few sessions with a range of fishers, divers, tourism operators and traditional owners attending displays throughout the south east corner.

“The display sessions give people the chance to find more information and obtain specific details about the review,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“Many locals were under the impression a decision had already been made about future zoning and that they would miss out on providing input.

“I urge people who still want information on the zoning plan reveiw to attend one of the sessions and talk to the experts.”

Ms Nelson-Carr said EPA staff were on hand to explain that this first stage of the review was an information gathering process and that there were no lines on maps as yet.

“The displays offer a great opportunity for the community to find out how they can include their local knowledge into the review process.

“The EPA is keen to provide maximum opportunities for people to have a say about this review.

“A draft plan will not be released until later this year after community input has been received.

“The community will then have at least two months to make a formal submission on the draft zoning plan.”

People can also provide input into the first stage of the review via freecall or email, by completing the on-line survey or writing to the EPA.
