Minister for Natural Resources and Water and Minister Assisting the Premier in North Queensland
The Honourable Craig Wallace
CLOSING DATE LOOMING FOR LIFESTYLE WATERWISE GRANTS
Water conscious sporting clubs, community groups and churches are being urged to apply for new WaterWise grants before applications close at the end of the month.
Minister for Natural Resources and Water Craig Wallace said the $10 million Lifestyle WaterWise grants program encourages not-for-profit organisations to reduce their water consumption.
“The grants will enable these groups and clubs to maintain parks, gardens and sporting fields from drying out during the drought,” Mr Wallace said.
“But time is quickly running out to get their applications in. Applications close on 30 March 2007.
“Under the Lifestyle WaterWise grants program Queensland’s sporting clubs, P&Cs, churches, community childcare, kindergartens, preschools and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for grants up to $30,000 to implement waterwise measures.
“These measures could include improving watering systems, replacing existing water guzzling devices such as single-flush toilets or installing water tanks or swimming pool covers and rollers.
“Clubs in the worst drought-stricken areas will be given priority but I encourage all Queensland clubs and community groups to apply.”
There are two levels of Lifestyle WaterWise grants – up to $30,000 and between $3,000 and $10,000 for organisations seeking smaller grants.
Projects should fall under one of four categories:
·Improving sportsground or park watering systems
·Replacing existing water-use devices
·Providing alternative water sources
·Installing swimming pool covers and rollers
