The Queensland Government’s support of local artists continues with Pete Murray, Tyrone Noonan and band Transport being assisted to promote themselves and Brisbane when they appear at MUSEXPO in Los Angeles next month.

Premier Peter Beattie said the artists would be performing in front of big names in the business in the wake of Billboard magazine naming Brisbane a world hotspot for new talent.

“We are growing incredible talent here and it’s the right time for our musicians to get on the world stage,” Mr Beattie said.

“MUSEXPO is a once in a lifetime opportunity and can shape careers which is why the Queensland Government is supporting our musicians in LA,” he said.

“We’ve assisted 10 acts through MUSEXPO since it started in 2005, and my Government remains as committed as ever to raising the profile of our artists across the globe.”

To date, the Queensland Government has invested $113,163 to cover costs associated with getting local artists to MUSEXPO, such as covering showcase fees and specialist artist development services.

Already MUSEXPO organiser A&R Worldwide has secured much sought-after US airplay for the Brisbane acts. A&R Worldwide is a leading artist discovery and development agency directed by Sat Bisla, who has helped the early careers of artists such as Dido, Fatboy Slim and Missy Higgins.

Mr Beattie said the Queensland contingent taking on LA this year would be performing in front of the industry’s key decision makers and meeting management, radio, film and television representatives.

Coordinating the Queenslanders’ involvement are the State’s Trade and International Operations Division, Arts Queensland and peak industry body Q Music.

MUSEXPO has already become a springboard for two Queensland bands – Boat People and Shifter.

After showcasing at MUSEXPO last year, Boat People scored an agreement with A&R Worldwide to procure film, television, advertising and video game placements in the USA. Their performance also led to radio support in the USA, Scandinavia and the UK, and video support in the US, through the International Music Feed – a music channel dedicated to promoting music from around the world.

Shifter was one of the favourites at the inaugural MUSEXPO in 2005, and signed a worldwide management deal with Boo Management which also manages Hilary Duff. Shifter has gone on to secure a number of licensing deals and was selected to record a ring tone for Cingular and Myspace Mobile Music Studio in the US.

MUSEXPO will run in Los Angeles from April 29 to May 2 2007.
