Planning for the State Government’s multi-billion dollar water grid will reach the Morayfield, Lander Shute and Palmwoods region in coming weeks, Deputy Premier and Infrastructure Minister Anna Bligh said today.

Ms Bligh said the Northern Pipeline Interconnector soon will enter its next phase, with notices of entry to be issued to about 330 landholders in the area.

This will allow State Government land officers access to properties to make detailed assessments as they refine the pipeline corridor and determine if easements need to be acquired.

“The notices of entry work both ways,” Ms Bligh said. “As well as allowing project personnel to enter properties, they also protect the rights of property owners.

“Generally, the pipeline will be buried within existing power-line easements.”

Activities are also progressing for the pipeline section north of Landers Shute and Palmwoods to the general area of Cooroy and Noosa, with teams of engineers and environmental officers considering options for the route.

Letters requesting access to private lands have already been sent to a number of private landowners.

“The Northern Pipeline Interconnector is an integral part of the water grid that will drought-proof south east Queensland,” Ms Bligh said.

“It will enable water to be moved between the Sunshine Coast and the Brisbane area when and where it is needed most.”

Ms Bligh said the NPI formed part of the State Government’s $7billion-$9billion water infrastructure program - the largest urban drought response in the nation’s history.

It includes the Gold Coast desalination plant, the Western Corridor Recycled Water Program, the Southern Regional Pipeline, the Eastern Pipeline Inter-Connector and construction of dams at Traveston Crossing and Wyralong.
