Toowoomba young people to celebrate their achievements

The Toowoomba City Care will receive $9500 in Queensland Government funding to help stage activities to mark National Youth Week next month.

Youth Minister Warren Pitt said the council’s Base-Harlaxton Youth Fest would celebrate the contribution young people make to society.

“It will allow young people to showcase their talents, participate in skills-development workshops and express their creativity and ideas,” Mr Pitt said.

“Importantly, the festival will also have an Indigenous focus.”

Ten organisations throughout the state would share in funding of $94,000 for National Youth Week from 14-22 April, celebrating the theme Launch Yourself.

“National Youth Week is Australia’s single largest celebration of young people,” Mr Pitt said.

“It is an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution that young people make to their communities. They are our future leaders.

“The Queensland Government is proud to support communities to celebrate the achievements of young people.

This funding will enable a range of activities to be held across the state to encourage a community focus on young people, their contribution and issues of concern to them.”

“It is important that young Queenslanders have an opportunity to promote their achievements and to raise issues of concern, both publicly and within their local communities,” he said.

National Youth Week is a joint Commonwealth, State and Local government initiative.
