Sunshine Coast young people to celebrate their achievements

The Caboolture Shire Council will receive $9000 in Queensland Government funding to help stage activities to mark National Youth Week next month.

Youth Minister Warren Pitt said the Caboolture Shire Council’s annual Y-Fest was initiated by the Youth Advisory Council to recognise young people’s contributions, talents, ideas and views.

“Y-Fest is a showcase of talented young artists, performers and entertainers, plus well known bands that are not easily accessible due to transport or financial constraints,” Mr Pitt said.

Ten organisations throughout the state would share in funding of $94,000 for National Youth Week from 14-22 April, celebrating the theme Launch Yourself.

“National Youth Week is Australia’s single largest celebration of young people,” Mr Pitt said.

“It is an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution that young people make to their communities. They are our future leaders.

“The Queensland Government is proud to support communities to celebrate the achievements of young people.

This funding will enable a range of activities to be held across the state to encourage a community focus on young people, their contribution and issues of concern to them.”

“It is important that young Queenslanders have an opportunity to promote their achievements and to raise issues of concern, both publicly and within their local communities,” he said.

National Youth Week is a joint Commonwealth, State and Local government initiative.
