Gold Coast young people to celebrate their achievements

The Gold Coast Youth Service will receive $9500 in Queensland Government funding to help stage activities to mark National Youth Week next month.

Youth Minister Warren Pitt said the Gold Coast Youth Service’s In2Youth Day would attract young people from across the region.

“The young people will provide a range of entertainment, workshops, social and sporting activities for the community,” Mr Pitt said.

Ten organisations throughout the state would share in funding of $94,000 for National Youth Week from 14-22 April, celebrating the theme Launch Yourself.

“National Youth Week is Australia’s single largest celebration of young people,” Mr Pitt said.

“It is an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution that young people make to their communities. They are our future leaders.

“The Queensland Government is proud to support communities to celebrate the achievements of young people.

This funding will enable a range of activities to be held across the state to encourage a community focus on young people, their contribution and the issues of concern to them.”

“It is important that young Queenslanders have an opportunity to promote their achievements and to raise issues of concern, both publicly and within their local communities,” he said.

National Youth Week is a joint Commonwealth, State and Local government initiative.
