Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie

BEATTIE GOVERNMENT TO HOST CELEBRATION FOR BULLETS

The Beattie Government will host a reception for the triumphant Breakfree Brisbane Bullets at Parliament House tomorrow night.

Mr Beattie said the reception would recognise the efforts of players and management involved in claiming the 2006/07 Phillips National Basketball League Championship title.

“The Bullets have had a terrific season and capped off a great run with success in the playoff series against the Melbourne Tigers,” Mr Beattie said.

“Joey Wright and his team broke a lot of records this season including a NBL record 21 game winning streak.

“This reception will allow us to formally recognise their achievements and help celebrate their success.”

Minister for Sport Andrew Fraser said the Bullets were a wonderful Queensland success story.

“Since the Bullets tipped off in the NBL in 1979 they have grown into one of Queensland’s favourite sporting teams,” Mr Fraser said.

“They are one of only two remaining foundation teams in the NBL.

“They have won two previous championships in 1985 and 1987 and have appeared in the NBL playoffs 19 times.

“Stars of the past such as Leroy Loggins, Larry Sengstock and Derek Rucker paved the way for the stars of today such as Mark Bradtke, Sam Mackinnon and CJ Bruton.

“I join the Premier in congratulating the Bullets on their success this season and look forward to welcoming them to Parliament House tomorrow night.
