New Southport Magistrate appointment approved
The appointment of a new Magistrate, Michael O’Driscoll, to Southport was approved by Executive Council today, Attorney-General and Justice Minister Kerry Shine said.
“The appointment of Mr O’Driscoll to a new Magistrate position announced by the Government at Southport late last year,” Mr Shine said.
“Southport Magistrates Court is often regarded as one of Queensland’s busiest courts. I am pleased my two appointments to the Magistracy were to Southport.”
Mr O’Driscoll’s appointment is due to take effect on 16 March 2007. A swearing-in ceremony will be held this month.
Mr Shine said Mr O’Driscoll had extensive experience as an Acting Magistrate since 1997.
As an Acting Magistrate, Mr O’Driscoll has performed judicial duties at Brisbane, Southport, Coolangatta, Beaudesert, Inala, Ipswich, HollandPark, Wynnum, Cleveland, Beenleigh and Children’s Court Brisbane.
Educated in Rockhampton, Mr O’Driscoll has been admitted as a Barrister-at-Law (Supreme Court of Queensland and High Court of Australia). He has been appointed Justice of the Peace (Magistrate Court), Clerk of the Court and Mining Registrar (Public Service Board) and Clerk of the Court Coolangatta.
Mr O’Driscoll has also served in the Office of the Clerk of the Court in Rockhampton, Blackwater, Brisbane and Coolangatta.
