ROSS RIVER DAM QUARRY TO HOST CREAM OF QUEENSLAND TOURISM
Ross River Dam Quarry will provide a unique venue for the 2007 Queensland Tourism Awards, says Tourism Minister Margaret Keech.
Mrs Keech said she was thrilled Townsville would host this year’s awards for only the second time in the event’s 20-year history.
“I’m also excited that the event will be held in such a fantastic setting,’’ she said.
“Townsville’s Submission of Interest to hold the venue was so impressive that we knew the venue location would be equally as amazing.
“Queensland prides itself on offering a unique and diverse range of tourism experiences.
“With its stunning open-air setting, the Ross River Dam Quarry will be the perfect compliment to an event that attracted more than 1,100 guests in 2006.
“The Beattie Government is committed to promoting and developing all of Queensland’s tourism regions.
“This event will give Townsville the perfect opportunity to showcase itself to the entire Queensland tourism industry.”
Mrs Keech said the awards would be held on Saturday, November 10.
“I would like to congratulate Townsville Enterprise again for their commitment to making the Queensland Tourism Awards 2007 the most memorable yet,” she said.
Townsville Enterprise CEO, Ms Glenys Schuntner, said that Townsville’s tourism industry was dedicated to showcasing tourism in the region.
“Townsville has a very dedicated and professional tourism industry backed by some of Queensland’s most spectacular natural assets.
“We are excited to be involved in organising such a large event that not only highlights Townsville but the entire Queensland tourism industry.
“I know Townsville Enterprise, local government and industry will really support the event with sponsorship, accommodation and awareness.”
