The Honourable Robert Schwarten
TECHNOLOGY IMPROVES ACCESS TO PUBLIC RECORDS
A partnership between the Queensland Government and Brisbane-based company, TechnologyOne, will provide easier access to the State’s archival public records.
Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten said today the new software system, Archives One, would dramatically improve online access.
”Archives One and its online catalogue, ArchivesSearch, will improve the way records are catalogued at Queensland State Archives and then accessed by the public,” Mr Schwarten said.
“From now on, archivists can better describe their records, and the public in turn will have faster and easier access through the online catalogue.”
TechnologyOne Executive Chairman Adrian Di Marco said the company had a long-term relationship with Queensland State Archives, and was excited to see the successful new development delivered to customers.
The ArchivesSearch online catalogue will display digital images relevant to item descriptions, a feature not available with the previous system.
Mr Schwarten said Queensland State Archives could now work on digitising selected archival records and photos.
“Once the project is completed, anyone with internet access will be able to use the ArchivesSearch catalogue through the Queensland State Archives website to find more photos and records online,” he said.
Queensland State Archives will run workshops to familiarise clients with the new ArchivesSearch. For further information, contact 3131 7777 or www.archives.qld.gov.au.
Queensland State Archives, 435 Compton Road, Runcorn, is open from Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 4.30pm, and on the second Saturday of each month, during the same hours.
