Fast public transport corridor moves a step closer

The wheels are moving on the crucial Ipswich to Springfield Public Transport Corridor with the preferred routes today announced by the Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Paul Lucas, Member for Ipswich, Rachel Nolan, and Member for Bundamba, Jo-Ann Miller.

Option 1A, from Ipswich to Ripley through Yamanto, and Option 2A from Ripley to Springfield through Redbank Plains, have been assessed as the best options.

“The options are the product of careful consideration not only of the social, environmental and economic implications of the corridor, but most importantly, the views of the local community,” Mr Lucas said.

Member for Bundamba, Jo-Ann Miller, said hundreds of submissions had been received from the public.

“I value the views of my local community because we all have a part to play in building an easy and efficient public transport corridor.”

“Residents are particularly pleased about two new planned stations in the Redbank Plains area.”

Investigation of an Ipswich to Springfield Public Transport Corridor was announced by the Queensland Government to plan for significant population growth in Brisbane’s west.

It follows last week’s announcement of work to map out the exact route of the Darra to Springfield Transport Corridor, a $141 million partnership with the Horizon Alliance, which includes a new 16 kilometre train line and a 13 kilometre upgrade of the Centenary Highway.

A newsletter has been sent to residents along the proposed Ipswich to Springfield Public Transport Corridor ahead of the beginning of a detailed Environmental Impact Study.

Public comment will be sought before the study is finalised by July 2007.

“This is an exciting time for the region, we’re committed to building a new public transport system from the ground up, that means big benefits for not only residents but also the environment in terms of making an impact on greenhouse gases,” Ms Nolan said.
