Bitumen reseal an investment in central district roads
A joint state and federal government contract worth more than $1.7 million for resealing work on roads in the Banana, Fitzroy and Livingston shires has been awarded to Boral Resources (Qld) Pty Ltd.
Work has already begun on the Bruce Highway and will now focus on state controlled roads.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Paul Lucas said today the project was part of bitumen resealing work to improve the condition and general safety of district roads.
"The Queensland Government has provided funding of more than $1.6 million for resealing work on state roads, with the Australian Government providing $390,000 for work on national highways," he said.
"Works will focus on sections of the Leichhardt Highway between Westwood and Taroom as well as sections of the federally funded Bruce Highway between Rockhampton and St Lawrence.
"Resealing is important preventive maintenance which saves money in the long run by protecting roads against wear and tear, while preserving the underlying structure to avoid costly repairs.
"Preserving the road surface also has safety benefits; it improves skid resistance by helping tyres grip the road,'' Mr Lucas said.
