More than 3400 tonnes of asphalt are being steamrolled into road upgrades on the Sunshine Coast.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Paul Lucas, said Sunshine Coast motorists will enjoy a smoother, safer ride with Emoleum awarded a $1.3 million contract for asphalt surfacing work.
The project is a key component of maintenance works on the Sunshine Coast and will be rolled out by April.
"About 3400 tonnes of asphalt will be used to upgrade almost 3 kilometres on the Sunshine Motorway, Nicklin Way, Maroochydore-Noosa Road and Cooroy Connection Road,'' Mr Lucas said.
“These maintenance and capital works are aimed at protecting the taxpayer’s investment in one of Queensland’s largest assets – our roads.''
Programmed maintenance, which includes asphalt overlay and bitumen resealing, is important preventive maintenance.
“It saves money in the long run by protecting roads against wear and tear, therefore minimising the need for costly repairs, and there are road safety benefits too by improving skid resistance.
“It is a common sense investment in the state’s road network,” Mr Lucas said.
