Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie
SEQ MPs RECEIVE PURIFIED RECYCLED WATER KITS
Members of Parliament from both sides of politics will return to their electorates this week armed with information and samples of purified recycled water.
Premier Peter Beattie announced in Parliament today that all South-East Queensland Members would receive the information kit to assist in addressing questions and concerns about recycled water.
“The Queensland Government is taking action to secure future water supply for the South-East, which is currently in the grips of the worst drought on record,” Mr Beattie said.
“We have committed to a range of new water initiatives including new dams and a desalination plant on the Gold Coast, but we still needed to secure additional water supply sources.
“The introduction of purified recycled water will provide this additional source to meet increased demand and sustain future growth in the South-East corner.
“And while purified recycled water is a 100% safe source of drinking water - Queenslanders understandably have questions that deserve answers.
“Many local Members have approached me with questions from constituents and the new information and tasting kits will assist them in addressing these,” he said.
Mr Beattie said the kit contained fact sheets, useful contact lists and importantly, sample bottles of NEWater, Singapore’s purified recycled water, for sample tastings.
“In coming weeks, the Government will supply South East Queensland Members with a more substantial supply of the bottled water to allow further sample tastings within their electorates.
“I urge residents with questions or concerns about purified recycled water to approach their local Members for more information.”
