MEDIA ALERT-NEW AEROSPACE CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
Minister for State Development John Mickel will outline how Queensland will boost its reputation as an aviation and aerospace hub for the Asia-Pacific region at the Amberley RAAF base tomorrow.
Leading defence contractor Raytheon Australia will establish its new Aerospace Centre of Excellence in Brisbane.
Raytheon Australia staff are part of a team of specialists responsible for keeping Australia’s F-111 and Hercules aircraft in the air, they also provide systems integration and in-service support for F/A-18 Hornet Aircrew Training System simulators.
The Raytheon Australia Aerospace Centre of Excellence will be central to the management, development, and growth of its aerospace programs across Australia.
Queensland’s flourishing aviation and aerospace sectors have grown by over 6,000 new jobs since 1998, the value of industry participation in current Australian defence projects is already worth more than $900 million.

TIME
Media will need to be cleared by security at Amberley before entry.
Media accreditation and / or photo ID is required for clearance.
To ensure you have sufficient time to secure passes to gain entry to the RAAF base please meet at 1.00pm for a 1.30pm start.
*The Minister and media will be taken on a tour of the avionics workshops where the F-111’s are repaired and maintained, and shown over an F111.
Media wishing to attend please note directions below:
• RAAF Base Amberley is located 8 km from Ipswich and 50 km southwest of Brisbane.
• Follow the Ipswich Motorway towards Ipswich
• Take the Cunningham Highway (15) which leads you south of Ipswich and straight to the base. The base turn point is well signposted.
• Turn right on to Southern Amberley Road, through the roundabout near the base and proceed to the car park next to the Amberley Security / Pass Office.

• Raytheon personnel will escort media in a group to the site for the announcement (this is a short drive, parking will be available).
