The Honourable John Mickel

TOWNSVILLE DISTRIBUTER FUELED BY GOVERNMENT ETHANOL GRANT

Townsville based company Tropic Distributors Pty Ltd a major fuel distributor for Caltex in North Queensland is planning to extend its E10 footprint beyond North Queensland to as far as Cooktown and Mt Isa.

Minister for State Development, Employment and Industrial Relations John Mickel said Tropic Distributors Pty Ltd can be congratulated for being the first
E10 project in North Queensland to receive assistance under Queensland Ethanol Conversion Initiative.

“This project is important in addressing a relative imbalance between E10 outlets and infrastructure in the South East and the rest of Queensland.”

“The Queensland Government is pleased that a Queensland Ethanol Conversion Initiative Grant of $230,500 will make a significant contribution towards Tropic Distributors Pty Ltd to overcome the cost disadvantages of extending the distribution of E10 in North Queensland, Mr Mickel said.

The grant assistance will be expended towards the conversion of three retail sites for E10 retail (Charters Towers, Bowen, Pimlico) and the creation of significant new E10 storage capacity, at the Pimlico site.

“The assistance will also contribute to the conversion of two tankers, for E10 cartage, and for E10 promotional material and media advertising.

“Tropic Distributors Pty Ltd has been a keen supporter in E10 activities since 2004, including the promotion of E10 through partnering CSR in sponsoring NRL matches in the North, distributing fuel in a region from Cooktown in the North, the Atherton tablelands in the West and to Tully in the South, Mr Mickel said.

The Queensland Government’s Ethanol Industry Action Plan has been instrumental in raising the awareness of ethanol blended fuel and the number of E10 sites in Queensland. Since its inception, in 1 July 2004, the number of E10 sites has increased from under 50 to over 180.
