Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie
GOLD COAST TO HOST ANZ LADIES MASTERS FOR ANOTHER THREE YEARS
Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has announced the ANZ Ladies Masters golf tournament will be staged on the Gold Coast for another three years.
The prestigious tournament – currently being contested by some of the world’s leading women golfers at the Crowne Plaza Royal Pines Resort – has been supported by the Queensland Government, through Queensland Events, since 1999.
“I am delighted the Gold Coast will continue to host this acclaimed event which is widely regarded as the top women’s golf tournament in the southern hemisphere,” Mr Beattie said.
“It’s one of the most successful sporting events for women in Australia today, attracting major sponsorship and players and spectators from around the world.
“On top of that, it is beamed across the globe which means the Gold Coast is promoted to viewers and potential tourists far and wide.”
The ANZ Ladies Masters attracts an international line up of players to the Gold Coast every February, including Queensland’s own Karrie Webb (from Ayr), as well as coaches and support teams, golfing fans, and national and international media representatives.
“I would like to wish the current players the best of luck and I congratulate organisers and sponsors for recognising the great appeal of staging the tournament on the Gold Coast at the home of the ANZ Ladies Masters, the spectacular Crowne Plaza Royal Pines Resort.”
ANZ Ladies Masters tournament Chairman Bob Tuohy said the ANZ Ladies Masters had become synonymous with Queensland.
“We are looking forward to another three fantastic years of world-class golf here on the Gold Coast,” he said.
“This tournament continues to attract a wide field of talented professional and amateur golfers and fully deserves its reputation and status as the best tournament of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
“We are delighted to call the Gold Coast home for this tournament for the next three years and enjoy the excellent venue and facilities here at the Crowne Plaza Royal Pines Resort, as well as the wonderful climate, people and attractions of the Gold Coast.
“I would like to thank the Queensland Premier and the people of Queensland for their ongoing support and involvement.”
