Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie
BUSINESSES ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND EXPORT SMART WORKSHOP
Local firms looking for new ways to grow their businesses by exporting should attend workshops in Brisbane this month hosted by the State Government.
Premier Peter Beattie said, Getting Export Smart, was designed to encourage businesses across the State to take their products and services to the world.
“The Southside State Development Centre at Springwood is offering free introductory workshops to encourage firms regardless of size or industry to find out if exporting is for them,” Mr Beattie said.
“It’s a great way to meet your local export advisers and get a few tips on what it takes to export successfully – and find out more about the five-part program that could help transform your business.”
Workshops will be held on:
• Tuesday 27 February at the Logan Entertainment Centre, 170 Wembley Road, Logan Central from 5.00pm-7.30pm.
• Wednesday 28 February at the Alexandra Hills Hotel Conference Room, cnr Finucane and McDonald Roads, Alexandra Hills from 5.00pm-7.30pm.
Mr Beattie said Queensland firms were leading the charge when it came to exporting with the Smart State being one of the fastest growing exporters in the nation for 2005-2006, achieving record goods and services exports of $42.5 billion.
Brisbane’s Southside region already boasts some wonderful export success stories like the Redlands’ Inter-Ject International Pty Ltd – a manufacturer and marketer of fuel system diagnostic equipment and solvents for the automotive industry,” he said.
Logan City’s Amlink Technologies, which provides innovative software solutions to the world’s conference market under the brand name of Events Pro, is another regional exporter experiencing success.
For Amlink’s Managing Director Trevor Gardiner the support of the State Government has been invaluable.
“It has been an advantage for our company to gain access to people who know more about exporting, so we can further develop our export knowledge,” he said.
Mr Beattie said the Queensland Government was committed to enhancing the business environment in the State to help expand the export reach of Queensland firms.
“Taking smart goods and services across Australia and around the world contributes to the growth of our economy and creates even more employment opportunities for Queenslanders,” he said.
To register for your free workshop or to find out more about export assistance contact the Southside State Development Centre on 13 26 50 or visit www.export.qld.gov.au.
