Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie

BUSINESSES ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND EXPORT SMART WORKSHOP

Local firms looking for new ways to grow their businesses by exporting are encouraged to attend a workshop on the Gold Coast this month hosted by the State Government.

Premier Peter Beattie said the Getting Export Smart program was designed to encourage businesses across the State to take their products and services to the world.

“The local State Development Centre here on the Gold Coast is offering a free introductory workshop to encourage firms regardless of size or industry to find out if exporting is for them,” Mr Beattie said.

“It’s a great way to meet your local export advisers and get a few tips on what it takes to export successfully – and find out more about the five-part program that could help transform your business.”

The workshop will be held from 9am-11am on Wednesday 28 February at the Gold Coast State Development Centre, 26 Marine Parade, Southport.

Mr Beattie said Queensland firms were now leading the charge when it came to exporting with the Smart State being one of the fastest growing exporters in the nation for 2005-2006, achieving record goods and services exports of $42.5 billion.

The Gold Coast region already boasts some wonderful export success stories like health foods manufacturer Megaburn.

Megaburn founder and healthy lifestyle exponent, John Hefferman, has created one of the world’s only ‘live’ natural health bars. Each bar has about 60 million good bacteria living in it – give or take a million or so.

Megaburn, based at Ashmore, has been a part of the Queensland Government's New Exporter Development Program and is now exporting its products to New Zealand, South Africa and the USA.

Mr Beattie said the Queensland Government was committed to enhancing the business environment in the State to help expand the export reach of Queensland firms.

“Taking smart goods and services across Australia and around the world contributes to the growth of our economy and creates even more employment opportunities for Queenslanders,” he said.
