JOINT STATEMENT
Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie
Minister for Local Government, Planning and Sport
The Honourable Andrew Fraser
BIRTHDAY GIFT FOR BEAUDESERT
BEAUDESERT Shire Council will receive $500,000 from the Queensland Government to help transform Jubilee Park into a recreational precinct in time for Queensland’s 150th birthday in 2009.
Premier Peter Beattie and Minister for Local Government and Planning Andrew Fraser said the project as one of 79 more projects to be funded under the Legacy Infrastructure Funding program, a $100 million capital works program to create legacies for Queensland’s 150th anniversary.
“2009 is an important year for our State and we need to ensure there are lasting reminders of this milestone,” Mr Beattie said.
“We’ve identified 79 projects across the State to date that we believe will create a legacy and be enjoyed by generations to come. The proposed Jubilee Park Recreational Precinct is one such project.”
Under plans from Beaudesert Shire Council, Jubilee Park will be expanded with new facilities, such as a Youth Activity Centre, and redevelopment of existing facilities, including the addition of a hydrotherapy pool to the Beaudesert Pool. New lighting and public artworks will also be incorporated.
“The redevelopment of Jubilee Park will create a true community hub for the people of Beaudesert,” Mr Beattie said.
Mr Fraser said the project – like all others considered for funding – was required to meet specific criteria.
“When we asked Councils to submit their proposals last year, we were looking for practical tributes. That is, projects that would provide real and lasting benefits to the community for years to come,” he said.
“I feel very confident that this project will more than achieve this outcome.”
Mr Fraser said Beaudesert Shire Council was now required to submit a project plan confirming a 2008 completion date and demonstrate its ability to secure the additional funds required to undertake the project.
