More Millmerran–Inglewood Road improvements in train

A $14 million upgrade is underway to transform the Millmerran-Inglewood Road, south-west of Toowoomba, into road freight powerhouse.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Paul Lucas, said the works in-conjunction with Millmerran and Inglewood Shires will allow this important 68 kilometre transport link to carry more heavy vehicles.

“The works, once complete in 2009, will make for a much smoother journey, while improving safety and freight efficiency”

Late last year, Millmerran Shire Council finished the first $450,000, 2 kilometre section of the project at Commons Hill, north of Nicol Creek.

"The initial stage included road strengthening, drainage works and signage upgrades for better visibility," Mr Lucas said.

Millmerran Shire will continue working south of the recently completed work to widen and strengthen the 300-metre section of the Nicol Creek floodway.

“Works are being carried out with road trains in mind with drainage improvements and the widening of the floodway from six metres to nine metres”

Inglewood is also widening and bolstering the road near its shire boundary.

“Intermittent delays for motorists are inevitable, but long term improvements to the Millmerran-Inglewood route will provide efficiency gains for road freight and benefits for the economy,” Mr Lucas said.
