New chair for Central Queensland Ports Authority
The Beattie Government today announced the appointment or Ian Brusasco as the new chair of the Central Queensland Ports Authority.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Paul Lucas said Mr Brusasco’s appointment followed the recent resignation of previous chair, Helen Gluer, who has taken up the role as CEO of Tarong Energy.
Mr Brusasco has a long history of service in the state’s private and public sectors. He is currently Chairman of Workcover Queensland and a Director of the Queensland Investment Corporation.
He was also was chairman of the then Port of Brisbane Authority from 1991 – 1996.
In addition, Mr Brusasco has a long history of support for the Queensland sporting fraternity and is currently a Director of the Queensland Academy of Sport.
“Mr Brusasco is well qualified for this role, and we are very fortunate that he has agreed to a two year term to ensure the ongoing success of one of Queensland’s major export ports,” Mr Lucas said.
“I would also like to thank Ms Gluer for her contribution to the port both as a director and more recently chair of the port authority.”
The CQPA manages the ports of Gladstone and Port Alma. Gladstone is Queensland’s largest multi commodity port with total throughput in 2005-06 of over 67 million tonnes of freight.
The port is currently undertaking a major expansion of the RG Tanna Coal terminal and investigating a future proposed terminal at WigginsIsland.
Port Alma, 60km south of Rockhampton, is a transhipment facility for hazardous cargoes. Its main cargoes include salt, tallow and meat products, explosives, ammonium nitrate, and general cargo.
