BEATTIE ENCOURAGES QUEENSLANDERS TO JOIN THE RED ARMY
Premier Peter Beattie today urged all Queenslanders to join the ‘Red Army’ in support of the QR Queensland Red’s 2007 Super 14 campaign.
Mr Beattie said the Reds, who kick off their season against the Wellington Hurricanes at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night, would need the support of a big hometown crowds this year.
“The Hurricanes made it to the Super 14 Final in 2006, so a win in Round One of the competition will provide the Reds with a lot of confidence for the remainder of the 2007 season,” he said.
“With Eddie Jones at the helm this year, all Queenslanders are expecting big things from the Reds in 2007.”
Mr Beattie said Suncorp Stadium’s ongoing calendar of events was now a feature of Brisbane’s sporting scene.
“It is a never ending season at Suncorp Stadium,” he said.
“No sooner has the Roar’s season been completed; the soccer posts are removed and replaced with goal posts for the oval ball.
“This is great for sport fans and also great for the local businesses in and around the precinct.”
Mr Beattie said the Government’s decision to redevelop Suncorp Stadium had been vindicted many times over.
"We wore a lot of criticism when we went ahead with the redevelopment of Suncorp Stadium but now it is one of the most popular venues in the country and recognised around the world,” he said.
“Last year more than than one million patrons passed through the gates.”
The Queensland Reds versus Wellington Hurricanes kicks off at 7.30pm tomorrow. Tickets are available from www.ticketek.com.au
