Minister for Child Safety
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Slap on a tatt or wear a tiara to help abused children
Cairns businesses are being urged to support abused children and sell tatts and tiaras in the lead up to Tatts and Tiara’s Day on February 14.
Child Safety Minister and Member for CairnsDesley Boyle and Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall say the Abused Child Trust’s annual fundraiser is a more than worthy cause.
“The Department of Child Safety receives around 40,000 calls each year about children suspected of being harmed,” Ms Boyle said.
“There are more than 6600 Queensland children in the care of the Department because their own parents are unable to keep them safe,” she said.
Mr Wettenhall said: “Protecting children is the whole community’s responsibility and this is a really easy way we can all play a role.
“I hope Cairns businesses and schools will get behind the event and sell tatts and tiaras and that everyone buys one to wear on the day,” he said.
The Abused Child Trust recently expanded its service to Cairns. As part of its fundraiser it will be running activities for children at Cairns Central from Monday, February 12 to Sunday, February 18.
All money raised locally through the campaign will be used in Cairns.
Tatts, tiaras, bracelets, pens and pins cost from $1. To receive a box to sell phone
