2007 QUEENSLAND TRAINING AWARDS LAUNCHED
The search for the state's top training achievers began today with the opening of nominations in the 2007 Queensland Training Awards.
Minister for Education and Training, Rod Welford, said the awards would recognise high achievers who were making significant contributions towards the skilling of Queensland.
“Our state’s vocational and training education system is being transformed through the Queensland Skills Plan,” Mr Welford said.
“It’s a new environment with new enthusiasm to meet skills shortages.
"Training providers, employers, Government agencies, apprentices and trainees all have the opportunity to receive recognition.
“The awards are a great way for us to share our success stories.
“Successful nominees can be recognised within their own regions and advance to state and national judging levels.
“This year, we have a new category – the Premier’s Innovation in Skilling Award.
“This will go to an organisation or partnership that has demonstrated the spirit of the Skills Plan, taking an innovative approach to skills development.”
Nominations for the Queensland Training Awards open tomorrow (February 1), and close on Friday 30 March.
The awards are contested first at the regional level, with winners going on to compete at the state level. The state final will be held in Brisbane on 13 September 2007.
Queensland has been well recognised at the national level with three organisations and two individuals from Queensland winning accolades at the Australian Training Awards in 2006.
