Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
Power Upgrade for Agnes Water
Work on a multi million dollar power upgrade for the Discovery Coast is well underway, Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson said today.
The Minister said work on Ergon Energy’s substation at Agnes Water and Granite Creek was well advanced.
“Two large transformers have been delivered to the Agnes Water substation and are currently being installed,” Mr Wilson said.
“Work is also well underway on the substation’s control building.
“The Agnes Water substation complex should be completed by the end of April with the Granite Creek bulk supply point, where the system will take high voltage supply from the state grid, expected to be completed by the end of May,” he said.
“Ergon Energy is waiting on a few remaining approvals for the high voltage line linking the two substations and expects construction work on the 40 kilometre line to be completed later this year,” he said.
Mr Wilson said the upgrade would benefit homes and businesses in Agnes Water, 1770 and Baffle Creek.
“The Discovery Coast will reap the benefits of a more reliable power supply to meet the growing needs of the region,” he said.
Ergon Energy has been maintaining and monitoring the region’s current high voltage supply line from Miriam Vale.
“More than $1 million has been spent on maintenance work to improve reliability while the upgrade is being undertaken.
