NEW PRESIDENT OF CHILDREN’S COURT OF QUEENSLAND
District Court Judge Julie Dick SC has been appointed President of the Children’s Court of Queensland, Attorney-General Kerry Shine said today.
Mr Shine said Judge Dick, who had been appointed a Children’s Court Judge in 2001, replaces Judge Kerry O’Brien who resigned as Children’s Court President in September last year. Judge O’Brien will continue to hold his appointment as a Children’s Court Judge.
“Judge Dick was appointed to the bench of the District Court in 2000. She had previously served as he first Parliamentary Criminal Justice Commissioner and she was appointed as Senior Counsel in 1997,” Mr Shine said.
Mr Shine said Executive Council had also approved the appointment of District Court Judge Tony Rafter SC as a Children’s Court Judge. Judge Rafter was appointed to the District Court in December last year.
The Children’s Court of Queensland is a special District Court dealing with cases where the accused is under the age of 17 years.
