The Honourable Anna Bligh

Strong focus on Bromelton’s industrial future

The State Government and the Beaudesert Shire Council are involved in discussions about the best way to accelerate the planning and development of the Bromelton Industrial Estate Acting Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure Anna Bligh said today.

“The Government is investigating opportunities for preserving land for future major industrial uses to meet the projected population growth of South East Queensland,” Ms Bligh said.

“The South East Queensland Regional Plan identifies land at Bromelton as an area with future industrial development potential.

“Bromelton is currently the only future industrial land in South East Queensland with direct access to the national standard gauge railway system and is of great strategic importance,” Ms Bligh said.

“So the State Government is working in partnership with the Beaudesert Shire Council to determine the best way to accelerate the planning and development of the Bromelton estate.

“We are doing strategic planning at Bromelton looking up to 50 years into the future so decisions on the best way forward won’t happen overnight.

“Our investigations need to consider major infrastructure requirements, future development patterns of the region and the land’s suitability for industrial uses.

“One option being considered is for Bromelton Industrial Estate to be declared a State Development Area, a process that has been successfully used to plan industrial development in Gladstone and Townsville.

“But no decision has been made, and whatever does happen with Bromelton in the future will be done in partnership with the Beaudesert Shire Council and involve considerable public consultation.
