Minister for Education and Training and Minister for the Arts
The Honourable Rod Welford
Queensland’s growing population is reflected in the high number of students expected to enrol in schools across the state this year.
Education and Training Minister, Rod Welford, said approximately 700,000 students were expected to enrol at state, Catholic and independent schools in 2007.
“Queensland continues to be one of the fastest growing states in Australia and this growth is reflected in the high number of enrolments forecast for this year,” Mr Welford said.
“Enrolments in both primary and secondary schools continue to grow and we expect an increase of about 10,000 on 2006 figures.
“Approximately 480,000 students are expected to enrol at state prep sites, primary, secondary and special schools and an estimated 217,000 in non-state schools.”
School enrolment figures for 2007
- Approximately 29,000 students are expected to enrol in the first universally available Prep year program in 2007.
- About 40,000 students are expected to enrol in Year 1 at Queensland state schools in 2007, with a further 16,000 due to enrol in non-state schools.
- Approximately 37,000 students are expected to enrol in Year 8 at Queensland state schools in 2007, with a further 21,000 due to enrol in non-state schools.
- Queensland state special schools are forecast to enrol approximately 2900 students.
