Minister for Tourism, Fair Trading, Wine Industry Development and Women
The Honourable Margaret Keech
DANGEROUS CHRISTMAS LIGHTS RECALLED
Fair Trading Minister Margaret Keech today alerted Queenslanders that a brand of Christmas lights had been recalled nationally because they were considered dangerous.
Mrs Keech said the recall of imported Christmas Magic ropelights had been initiated in New South Wales.
“I am advised the recalled products are Christmas Magic 10m Ropelight and a similar product of the same name with 8-function controller,” she said.
“The lights are considered dangerous because of exposed and uninsulated wiring.
“I am advised by the Office of Fair Trading’s Product Safety Branch that problems may occur if the rope lights come into contact with moisture.
“Anyone who has bought these lights should discontinue use immediately and return them to the point of purchase for refund.”
Mrs Keech said the recall applied nationally as the products were sold in a number of discount stores around Australia.
For further information contact the product manager at the importer, Dats Pty Ltd, on 02 8881 4840.
