Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
New substation powering port
The new Gladstone North substation is up and running and is now supplying power to a new coal loading facility at the Central Queensland Port Authority.
Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson said the substation was part of a $30 million power upgrade that Ergon Energy is undertaking in Gladstone.
“The new substation will keep up with power demand for future expansions at the port,” Mr Wilson said.
“The Clinton Industrial substation had supplied power to the port.
“It will now focus on meeting the power needs of Gladstone’s industrial, commercial and residential sectors.
“The upgrade will provide a significant power boost for other parts of the city as well.
“The entire project is expected to be finished around the middle of next year and will help Gladstone keep up with future power demands,” he said.
Ergon Energy is delivering significant upgrades to its vast regional Queensland network through a record capital expenditure program of more than $700 million this year.
The Ergon Energy network comprises more than 150,000 kilometres of electricity line, about 1 million power poles and 70,000 substations and extends from Birdsville in south west Queensland to Thursday Island in the Torres Strait, over more than 1 million square kilometres or six times the size of Victoria.
