Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries
The Honourable Tim Mulherin
ACCOMMODATION GRANT AVAILABLE FOR FARMBIS COURSES
Primary producers undertaking FarmBis courses in Queensland will be eligible for a new accommodation subsidy, Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin said today.
Mr Mulherin said the subsidy recommendation was put forward due to a need to support primary producers coping with difficult times to access training.
“From January 2, 2007 FarmBis will provide a 50 per cent subsidy towards the cost of accommodation for courses that involve two or more days of continuous training,” he said.
“Many producers are finding it increasingly difficult to invest in training with the ongoing effects of the drought and cyclones this year.
“We hope accommodation subsidy for FarmBis courses will enable people to continue to invest in their personal development.”
FarmBis is a jointly funded initiative of the Queensland and Australian governments to provide financial assistance to primary producers to undertake business and natural resource management training and education.
“Improving skills and the availability of labour is a major focus of the Queensland Government’s long-range planning, which seeks to actively pursue strategies to meet current and emerging skill needs,” Mr Mulherin said.
“The training provided under the FarmBis program is an essential service for our primary producers, fostering improved leadership capacity and sustainable, profitable businesses.”
Residential courses will include a 50 per cent subsidy towards the total course cost. Non-residential courses where accommodation is obtained separately will include a 50 per cent subsidy up to a maximum subsidy of $60 per night per room for the same number of days as training.
FarmBis programs are available throughout Queensland, with more than 120 training providers available to work with primary producers to develop training programs.
