SMART STATE E-HEALTH COMPANY SECURES $3 MILLION MALAYSIAN DEAL

Queensland is a world-leader in e-Health solutions (electronic health-related products and services) thanks to a multi-million dollar deal struck between a Malaysian hospital and a home-grown information and communications technology (ICT) company.

Minister for State Development John Mickel congratulated Milton-based Integrated Medical Systems (IMS) for its entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to targeting international markets for Queensland developed e-Heath solutions.

“The $3 million deal was struck last week with Hospital Universitit Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM), a large tertiary hospital with over 1000 beds,” Mr Mickel said.

“IMS will upgrade the existing Clinical Information System at HUKM that is to be integrated with their new web-based Caring Hospital Enterprise System (C-HEtS). This will provide HUKM with a total hospital system combining the patient administration system and IMS clinical modules.”

Mr Mickel said Malaysian doctors would now be able to place orders online, review patient medical history, examine clinical conditions, prescribe appropriate medication, and order tests quickly and efficiently.

“IMS ICT solutions will allow doctors to focus their valuable efforts on the patient, rather than administrative duties and paperwork, to vastly improve patient care,” the Minister said.

“This latest international ICT deal further cements the Smart State’s reputation as a world leading developer of e-Health solutions.”

IMS Chief Executive Officer Irene Low said the hospital had previously commissioned IMS solutions to meet the advanced technology needs of the pathology, laboratory, blood bank, radiology and imaging departments.

“We know that introducing new applications can be a challenge for large organisations. That’s why our HL7 interface will be able to plug into the existing software to help smooth the transition for hospital staff,” Ms Low said.

“New tele-radiology reporting will ease the travel burden for specialist radiologists as well as the turnaround time of results back to the clinicians.”

Minister Mickel said Queensland’s Tele-Heath Network was recognised internationally as the largest and most utilised video conferencing network of any single heath organisation in the world.

“Taking Queensland ICT solutions to global markets is a key component of the Queensland Government’s four year $18.5 million Smart ICT: Taking it to the world Strategy,” he said.

“Round 16 of our International Trade Show Assistance Program, which provides up to $5,000 to assist the State’s ICT companies promote their products and services internationally, opens on 23 January 2007.
