CULTURAL CENTRE BUZZING WITH FAMILY FUN OVER HOLIDAYS
The Cultural Centre at South Bank, Brisbane’s newest family destination, will be buzzing with fun activities during the summer school holidays.
Arts Minister, Rod Welford, said much of the fun would be aimed specifically at children and their families and many of the activities were free.
“I hope the Cultural Centre becomes somewhere that many Queenslanders think of as being ‘the’ place to go when considering what to do during the school holidays,” Mr Welford said.
“With the recently opened new Gallery of Modern Art, redeveloped State Library of Queensland, refurbished Queensland Art Gallery, Queensland Performing Arts Centre and the Queensland Museum, there is something for everyone these holidays.
“As part of the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art are presenting Kids’ APT from now until 27 May next year, featuring 13 interactive art works just for children.
“In addition, the two galleries are also having the Kids’ APT Summer Spectacular from 13-28 January – a free, 16-day program of performances, artist-run workshops and activities.
“The State Library has free film and animation screenings and cartoon and animation workshops for families these holidays, as well as a number of exhibitions.
“The National Treasures from Australia’s Great Libraries exhibition, the Multimedia Art Asia Pacific ‘out of the internet’ festival and Sports and War exhibition are bound to entertain the whole family.
“Over at the Queensland Museum, the Museum Zoo: Animals, size and me exhibition is exploring the relationship between creatures big and small, and from both the past and present.
“There’s also the Icons of Queensland exhibition presenting 36 interesting icons which have significance in the cultural history of the state.”
