JOINT STATEMENT
Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie
Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
BRIGHT NEW SPARK TO LEAD TARONG ENERGY
Premier Peter Beattie has announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer to one of the state’s largest electricity generators – Tarong Energy.
Mr Beattie said that respected Queensland executive Helen Gluer would join Tarong Energy in late January. The appointment was approved today by Governor in Council.
“Ms Gluer has the drive and skills needed to lead Tarong at such a dynamic time in the energy sector,” Mr Beattie said.
Ms Gluer, currently Chief Financial Officer with Brisbane City Council, is a senior executive with a diverse 25 year career that includes experience in banking, education and infrastructure.
Ms Gluer currently sits on the board of City Super Pty Ltd and is Chair of the Central Queensland Ports Authority. Until recently she was a director for the South East Queensland Water Board and the Brisbane Airport Corporation.
“Ms Gluer has shown a passion for infrastructure and a keen understanding of related market issues, particularly with her board-level exposure to ports, airports and the water sector,” Mr Beattie said.
Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said Ms Gluer’s broad experience in dealing with large and complex organisations meant she was well placed to lead Tarong Energy in a rapidly evolving energy market.
“Her down-to-earth style and reputation for getting on with the job will fit well with Tarong Energy. I welcome Ms Gluer to Tarong Energy and look forward to working with her in the New Year,” Mr Wilson said.
The Minister also thanked acting CEO Keith Davies for leading Tarong Energy for the past six months.
“Mr Davies has done a good job since being asked to act in the position in July and will continue to play a key leadership role in Tarong Energy,” he said.
Tarong Energy is a Government Owned Corporation that employs around 350 people. It supplies about one quarter of the state’s electricity through hydro, coal-fired and wind-powered generators.
